About

Simeon is a professionally trained musical performer and educator based in South Oxfordshire. He is a Member of the Independent Society of Musicians.

He has been engaged with music since a young age and started playing the alto saxophone in late 2017. This was after two years of playing the clarinet and general encouragement to make the move.

Simeon has been taught in both Jazz and Classical Saxophone; although he has taken classical grades he has a flair for improvising. He was previously taught Jazz Saxophone primarily by Mornington Lockett at RCMJD. Currently, his main teacher is Tom Richards. In December 2021 he passed his DipABRSM with Distinction. The programme was inspired by both Jazz and Classical styles with pieces by Phil Woods, Lawson Lunde and Jacques Ibert.

In terms of performing, Simeon has played in pubs, busked at a local Arts centre, participated in a flash mob with Hackney Colliery Band, played in Nottingham Youth Jazz Orchestra, gigged at The 606 Club, done two late nights of jazz at the Royal Albert Hall, sung at St James’ Palace and Wigmore Hall, and can be seen at various venues in South Oxfordshire. Beyond this he has performed in a variety of events for various ensembles of both Jazz and Classical styles.

During the past few years Simeon has worked with numerous top professionals from around the UK. This includes a “free improvisation” concert with Shirley Smart, singing in a choir of eight lead by Joy Hill and accompanied by Martyn Noble, and performing in a classical saxophone octet conducted by Sarah Markham. He has played lead alto in Mornington Lockett’s Big Band and enjoyed further experiences with people like Paul Hollis in local jazz café events.
